Jan. 11, 2014 @ 10 a.m. 
"Sapelo Island School Reunion," with lecture by Jeanne Cyriaque, Historic Preservation Division of DNR. Theme: Sapelo Island's Rosenwald Legacy. This event is sponsored by Hog Hammock Public Library, and will be held at the Community Center, on Sapelo Island, Ga. Reservation required. Ferry is $5 roundtrip. Call (912) 230-5534.

Play: Dar He: The Story of Emmett Till
Actor Mike Wiley portrays all of the characters in this true story of a Chicago youth lynched in the Mississippi Delta in 1955. The performance will be held at The Ritz in Brunswick, Ga. For more details about this program and other events, visit the Ritz online.

Lecture: History of Harris Neck, presented by members of the Harris Neck Land Trust, in the Community Room of the Ida Hilton Public Library, Darien, Ga.

Film: Lee Daniels' The Butler, starring Forest Whitaker and Oprah Winfrey, is loosely based on the story of White House butler, Eugene Allen. Stembler Theatre at College of Coastal Georgia, Brunswick. Free and open to the public. Co-sponsored by CCGA's Office of Diversity and Inclusion and Overboard Entertainment.

MLK Parade: It begins at Blount Crossing, heads south on Hwy. 17, turns at Hwy 99, and ends at MLK Blvd., in Darien, Ga.

Film: The Tempest, starring Helen Mirren, Felicity Jones and Djimon Hounsou. College of Coastal Georgia presents a Shakespearean film, with discussion by Dr. Heather Murray. The films is part of the series "Timeless and Contemporary: 21st Century Adaptations of Shakespeare on Film." Stembler Theatre at College of Coastal Georgia, Brunswick.

Film: 4 Little Girls, a Spike Lee documentary about the notorious 1963 church bombing that took four innocent lives in Birmingham, Ala. Stembler Theatre at College of Coastal Georgia, Brunswick. Free and open to the public. Sponsored by CCGA's Office of Diversity and Inclusion.

Feb. 5, 2014 @ 6 p.m.
"Bilali Muhammad and Sapelo Island," a lecture by Dr. Joseph Beatty at the Casino Theater, St. Simons Island, Ga. Presented by the St. Simons Island African American Heritage Coalition. The talk is free for members; nonmembers $10. (Join the Coalition for $25.)

Slam poet Gayle Danley performs at Stembler Theatre on the Brunswick campus of College of Coastal Georgia. The event is free and open to the public.

Film: Titus. College of Coastal Georgia presents a Shakespearean film, with discussion by Dr. Heather Murray. The films is part of the series "Timeless and Contemporary: 21st Century Adaptations of Shakespeare on Film." Stembler Theatre at College of Coastal Georgia, Brunswick. 

Feb. 15, 2014 @ 7 p.m. The Sapelo Project comes to the stage at Emory University's Schwartz Theater in Atlanta. The program is part of the National Civil War Project and The Brave New Works Festival of new play readings and exploratory workshops. Tickets are free, but reservations are highly recommended. Of Ebony Embers: Vignettes of the Harlem Renaissance. Co-sponsored by MASDA and Student Government Association of College of Coastal Georgia. This event will be held in the Brunswick High School Auditorium.

Musical: The Color Purple at the Alhambra Dinner Theatre, Jacksonville, Florida. This musical is based on Alice Walker's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name, and the film by Steven Spielberg which starred Whoopi Goldberg as Celie. September 18-20, 2014
Conference: The Slave Dwelling Project

OCTOBER 

Oct. 18, 2014 @ 8a.m.-5 p.m. 
The annual Cultural Day festival will be held on Sapelo Island, Georgia. The event is hosted by the Sapelo Island Cultural and Revitalization Society Inc.
