MEET THE ARTISTS

Rhonda Bristol
Rhonda Bristol's style is influenced by Romare Bearden, Malkia Roberts and Lois Jones Pierre-Noel. She loves color and pattern, and uses acrylic paints exclusively. "I continue to be fascinated with the human face and I still enjoy portraiture. This fascination extends to sculpture, where I use clay and abstract human forms, making masks as well as totem-like standing figures. Gullah-Geechee, Caribbean and African cultural images speak through my work." Her studio is in Fernandina Beach, Fla. More




Kenneth Carroll
Kenneth Carroll is a native of Brunswick, Ga., and he has an eye for capturing beauty through his photography. Growing up in the Fancy Bluff Community in Brunswick afforded him many opportunities to explore nature and develop an appreciation and love for people and his surroundings. Through the lens of his camera, he has been able to seize this appreciation and love to share with others. His photographs are spontaneous moments frozen in time. He "seez" what is often overlooked or taken for granted as worthy of a second glance. More



Serena Hall
Dothan, Ala., native Serena Hall organized the first Cultural Expressions show in 2013 in Darien, Ga. She moved from Atlanta to Darien in 2007. A year later, she began an art class at the McIntosh Art Association. She paints many subjects, but her most popular are her "Dresser Ladies." Hall has participated in several art festivals, and recently placed second in the Darien Fall Fest. She exhibits her mixed media work at Red Piano Too on St. Helena Island, S.C. More




Michele Nicole Johnson
Michele Nicole Johnson is an artist, librarian and journalist who lives on Sapelo Island, Ga., in the Geechee-Gullah community, Hog Hammock. She is inspired by her ancestors and her island home, and she is an admirer of the Art Nouveau art style. She minored in art at the University of Florida, and also studied at the University of North Florida. Her cut-paper pieces include fabric, flowers, and other items, and she loves vintage frames. She sold her first piece more than 16 years ago when she was a member of the Beaches Art Center co-op in Jacksonville Beach, Fla. More


Vivian Mitchell
Vivian Mitchell was introduced to art at a very young age. She is from Cincinnati, where she graduated from the School for Creative and Performing Arts. She has been a resident of Coastal Georgia since 1986 and actively supports the art community as a participant in cultural events. Her drawings, paintings and sculptures have been shown at the Coastal Art Center, Jekyll Island Art Association, The Ritz, Olde Town Gallery in St. Marys, and she has done commissioned work. More




Tony Mungin-Shaw
Brunswick native Tony Mungin-Shaw is a professional saxophonist and contemporary impressionist abstract artist. He paints jazz and blues artists on a grand scale in striking hues. He has lived in England, and studied the great works of art at the National Gallery and the Tate Gallery in London, as well as the Louvre in Paris. Tony studied via Daytona State College PBS, with the renowned Jerry Yarnell, Yarnell School of Fine Art; Gary Jenkins, floral artist; Robert Wyland, marine life artist; and Gary Spetz, watercolor artist. More



Gene Threats
From his youth in Butler, Ga., to his teenage years in Brunswick, art has always been a part of Gene Threat's life. In 1996, he was diagnosed with total kidney failure. He had to undergo dialysis treatments three times a week for four hours a day. He began taking colored pencil drawing class, and would draw during his treatments. He received a kidney transplant in 2000, and is doing well. Threat's has a bachelor's and master's degree in Fine Arts from Valdosta State University. His work represents religious and family themes, and reflects African-American life, and he has had his work shown in several galleries, including in Paris. More
